Plumbing Supply Now is an online e-commerce store powered by Magento that has over 50,000 products or SKUs and integrates with other systems such as CRM, including custom shipping solutions, and other customizations and plugins. The challenges of migrating a customized theme from Magento 1 to Magento 2 were extensive, difficult, and data migration problems were plenty. Magento 1 uses different architectures from Magento 2, and migration is complex. Both platforms have different e-commerce structures, and the complexity of both versions varies widely. Compared to Magento 1, Magento 2 is faster, SEO-friendly, and more user-friendly. Magento 2 uses the most up-to-date PHP which improves the overall speed of the site. This means more orders per hour and faster page load times compared to Magento 1.
As part of the upgrade, Sigma Solve performed integration testing, load testing, performance testing, processing shipping rates, integrating Mailchimp, making changes to order syncing, and addressing all the challenges involved in smooth data and feature migration.

Theme migration was not possible and had to be carried out manually. Custom coding had to be adjusted as per Magento 2 structure. Other integrations involved Microsoft Dynamics and a custom shipping solution. The solution involved working with multiple vendors and integrations in Magento and customization as per the client’s requirement.
To improve site performance, we had to clean the database, configure the Varnish cache and Redis cache which helped to improve system performance. We had to configure CDN for faster content delivery.
For shipping, UPS gateway was returning wrong shipping rates for years and the company was losing money on their shipping rate.
